River Island Partners with Mercaux to Provide RFID Self-

On February 28, 2023, Mercaux, the industry-leading provider of next-generation In-Store Experience, Universal Basket and Checkout Platform, announced offering RFID self-checkout to River Island, the iconic British high street retailer, in conjunction with key strategic partners.

Customers will be encouraged to use self-service devices to expedite the final phase of their path-to-purchase, thereby transforming checkout into a pleasant experience for customers. After placing the products in the "RFID Bucket," items appear instantaneously in a digital basket on Mercaux's self-service kiosk, where the customers complete their purchase. The purpose of the project is to offer River Island customers with a fast, efficient, and enjoyable manner to check out.

Customers no need to stand in line to be served by a store associate at a conventional cash register thanks to this advancement in self-service checkout made possible in part by Mercaux's Next Generation Composable Platform. This also enables retailers to surface the checkout process on any device in-store (customer or store associate). River Island's objective to make the checkout process fun and quick was achieved with the help of Mercaux technology's composability, meaning that it was integrated and deployed with speed and ease to their current omnichannel commerce platform with the help of System Integrator, Cabiri.

Olga Kotsur, Co-Founder & CEO of Mercaux, said, "By offering an alternative to Legacy POS, River Island will be able to eliminate maintenance costs and break away from lengthy and expensive on-prem release cycles, towards quicker and more agile upgrades via the cloud. We are delighted that they have chosen Mercaux as a key partner to support them in their vision."

Square Software Turns Android Devices Into Powerful Payment Technology

Businesswire | April 20, 2023

Square today launched Tap to Pay on Android for sellers across the U.S., Australia, Ireland, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The new technology empowers sellers to securely accept contactless payments with a compatible Android device, and at no additional cost. With Tap to Pay on Android, Square is making it even easier for new sellers and established businesses to conduct in-person commerce. Using a compatible Android device, a seller simply opens the Square Point of Sale, Square Appointments, Square for Restaurants, or Square Invoices app, enters the sale, and presents their smartphone to the customer. From there, the buyer will see the total they owe along with the familiar contactless payments symbol, and can choose to complete the payment with a contactless credit or debit card, or a digital wallet such as Google Pay. “We operate a large fleet of technicians who are always on the move, responding to multiple calls a day. Time is money for us, literally,” said Lena Furr of Overhead Door Company of Washington D.C., which has been in business for over 50 years. “With Tap to Pay on Android, we’re getting both convenience and speed combined with an experience our customers love. When our technicians are wrapping up an onsite job, they can just take out their phone, have the client tap their card or phone, and hit the road for their next appointment. Meanwhile, we’re able to keep track of all the sales our crews make in the field right from our Square Dashboard.” Tap to Pay on Android is powered by Square’s elegant, intuitive software which gives sellers a flexible, mobile solution that meets consumers’ growing preferences for contactless payments. Square’s software also benefits consumers by offering them a smooth and straightforward checkout experience, enabling them to see all the information needed to help them complete their purchase with confidence. “Square’s goal is to make sure that our sellers, no matter where they are or who they are serving, never miss a sale,” said Alexis Sowa, General Manager of Square Point of Sale. “Our launch of Tap to Pay on Android brings a unique technology to millions of sellers globally, giving merchants a simple way to accept payments and access world-class, integrated software for their business. Even though Tap to Pay technology has only been available for a short time, the breadth of applications and use cases we’re seeing across our seller base already reinforce its staying power.” About Square Square helps sellers more easily run and grow their businesses with its integrated ecosystem of commerce solutions. Square offers purpose-built software to run complex restaurant, retail, and professional services operations, versatile e-commerce tools, embedded financial services and banking products, buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, staff management and payroll capabilities, and much more – all of which work together to save sellers time and effort.
