Best-In-Class BOPIS Retailers (and How to Emulate Them)

Buy Online Pick-up In-Store is one of the most talked about retail trends this year; by 2021 90 percent of retailers will have BOPIS options. However, when it comes to how retailers implement BOPIS into their businesses, it’s still pretty much the Wild West out there.Despite the fact that 68 percent of customers have made multiple BOPIS purchases, a recent secret shopper study by Tecsys subsidiary OrderDynamics and Bell and Howell called The State of the Industry found that top retailers’ average BOPIS pick-up times range between 2.1 and 16 hours. As a result, most customers have no idea what to expect when they place a BOPIS order – in fact, even customers placing multiple BOPIS orders with the same retailer can have a vastly different ordering experience depending on whether they order with a smartphone or laptop.
