Arcadia hints at trouble demanding 2% discount from suppliers

Arcadia Group has dealt a “significant hit” to clothing suppliers by demanding a lower price for any orders made, in signs the fashion giant could be struggling. According to ITV News, Arcadia’s chief executive Ian Grabiner penned a letter to its suppliers stating that from February 1 it would be imposing a two per cent discount on all its orders. Although retailers that fall under the Sir Philip Green-owned Arcadia umbrella – including Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge and Burton – do not make their financial figures public, Grabiner said the move was due to the group already absorbing “significant” costs.

Gap is the Latest Retailer to Get Into Resale, Partners With thredUP

Gap is the latest retailer to dip its toes into the secondhand apparel market, following the lead of Macy’s, Nordstrom and others, in a bid to stay relevant in an industry shaken by changing consumer tastes. The company announced last week that it has partnered with resale platform thredUP, which bills itself as the largest online consignment and thrift store. In select Gap, Banana Republic, Athleta, and Janie and Jack stores, thredUP bags and labels will now be available for customers to mail in their clothes, in exchange for credits to use at Gap’s portfolio of stores.
