16 Brands That Are Closing Their Stores In 2019

Shopping in malls and physical locations are becoming less and less common. The fact is, online shopping is more convenient, often cheaper, and boasts a selection no bricks and mortar store can compare to. With competition like Amazon Prime, NewEgg, and other easy to access options, standing stores aren't getting the customers or the income they once were. Even industry giants like Kohl's are planning to close stores in 2019 after what was a disappointing 2018 holiday season. Like Toys 'R Us, stores on this list are either in danger of or have already made the decision to close their doors for good. Some are simply choosing to move away from malls and shopping centers and put the bulk of their business in online retail. While this may seem sad, keep in mind that the shuttering of physical stores is partly because small businesses and designers can now reach consumers directly. People can list their garage and basement manufactured clothes on Amazon, sell on eBay, and take advantage of niche sites like Etsy. The focus has shifted to shopping locally, sustainably, and putting money in the pockets of small businesses over massive corporations.

How to Boost Your Sales with Ecommerce Fulfillment

Article | March 3, 2020

Conditioned by ecommerce behemoths, consumers now have high expectations for online shopping and ecommerce fulfillment. They demand more than just easy product selection and ultra-fast or same-day delivery; they also want flexibility in both delivery location and delivery time, and real-time updates throughout the parcel’s journey. Smart retailers understand these rising customer demands, and therefore increasingly put the customer first – not the product – in order to build loyalty. Even one unsatisfactory experience can end an otherwise fruitful customer relationship. A recent study from BigCommerce indicates that some relationships end before they even get started. The study found 77% of online buyers abandon their purchase if the shipping cost and services are deemed unsatisfactory, and 87% will choose a retailer specifically because free shipping is offered.

what impact will it have on convenience stores?

Article | March 3, 2020

The Internet of Things (IoT) is not an elegant phrase, but for independent retailers, it is an important one. It refers the way in which computing devices embedded in everyday objects can communicate with each other. In shops, this could mean anything from shelf-edge labels to fridges, to vending machines to security cameras. For cameras, the IoT provides the connections necessary to record, analyse and identify known thieves who might enter your shop. Nick Fisher, chief executive of Facewatch, has high hopes the system could help his company become a major benefit to retailers of all sizes. He says: “Convenience stores are a significant market for us. They have high footfall, a problem with theft and there are not enough police to help stop it.”

The Retail Industry and the Persistent Digital Threat Landscape

Article | March 3, 2020

In today’s age of digital transformation, retailers have changed the ways in which they interact and engage with consumers — starting with online shopping and e-commerce experience. In order for retail organizations to remain competitive, an omnichannel experience is critical, and with that, retail organizations are relying heavily on websites, mobile apps, online marketplaces, and social media to promote products, sell goods and even provide customer service. As competition to acquire and retain customers continues to increase, many retailers are also expanding their efforts to include social media and digital advertising platforms to enter new markets, generate awareness, and connect with potential customers. However, retailers aren’t the only ones that are targeting the opportunities online and digital platforms offer. Cybercriminals also recognize the opportunities that online platforms represent for retailers, and are seeking to exploit their market share and revenue potential.
