Q&A with Nidhi Gupta Director, Head of Global Product Marketing, Payments at eBay

Nidhi Gupta, Director & Head of Global Product Marketing, Payments at eBay is a  business leader with nearly 20 years’ experience in fields spanning from CPG to fintech, brick & mortar to ecommerce, non-profit and for-profit, US and emerging markets, B2B and B2C marketing. Managed go-to-market, product strategy, P&L, pricing, customer strategy, partnerships, and multi award-winning marketing initiatives.

Frequent speaker at conferences, named '40 under 40' in marketing twice, and regarded as a thought leader on global growth and expansion, digital business transformation, mobile and digital marketing esp. content, video, omni-channel marketing, and multicultural marketing. Enjoys the thrill of taking a project from conception to completion, and always on the lookout for the next challenge.

Media 7: What is your favorite part of working at eBay?
Nidhi Gupta:
My favorite part of working at eBay is being part of a company with such a rich purpose. From our founding, eBay has existed to empower people and create economic opportunity for all. We are a meaningful brand, with a unique legacy, and as a marketer I am drawn to that.

Our marketplace is vibrant -- enriched by a seller community that has an incredible sense of belonging, pride and fondness for eBay; buyers who come to eBay in search of something unique and are delighted when they find it; and employees who embody the same passion.

"Put yourself in the customer’s shoes, now more than ever. Treat the customer with respect, maintain transparency in communications, and maintain a high say:do ratio"

M7: What strategies do you use as a digital marketing leader to aim a target that is always moving?
NG:
I am a data enthusiast! Our teams use data to predict where the target is moving to next. We rely heavily on CRM to support our detailed journeys and segmentation, develop predictive models to determine where performance should be on acquisition trends, and if we notice deviations or drops in certain customer segments, we remedy through targeted communications. Given this emphasis, we not only work closely with our Analytics partners, but also have Analytics team members within marketing.

M7: What is the importance of customer feedback? How does it play a role in changing marketing approaches?
NG:
Everything we do is in service of our customers -- our buyers and sellers. Customer feedback is paramount and the North Star for all of our team’s efforts. The genesis of our payments initiative at eBay lies in improving the customer experience by removing friction and creating a singular seamless customer experience. We conduct product, market and user research including ethnographic studies before any new launch, whether it’s expanding to a new market or launching a new product feature. We are continuously listening to what our customers are saying  through ongoing surveys, seller communities and forums, learning, and iterating. We also recently launched a seller advocacy panel dedicated to our payments initiative where our marketing, product and engineering teams and our customers, have direct access to each other.

"Customer feedback is paramount and the North Star for all of our team’s efforts."

M7: What are your major marketing and advertising tactics to drive more buyer traffic to the site?
NG:
In my role, I don’t directly drive buyer traffic to the site but rather focus on driving buyer awareness, education and adoption of new ways to pay on eBay. By managing the end-to-end payments process, we are streamlining the checkout process by providing our buyers with more choice and flexibility with new forms of payment like Apple Pay and Google Pay as well as locally relevant payment methods like Afterpay in Australia and PayBright in Canada.

M7: How important is it to adopt a flexible payment system to engage and target your client base?
NG: Payments are critical to the health of any marketplace. With eBay managing payments on our marketplace, we are streamlining and simplifying the experience for our sellers with one place to sell, get paid and manage their business. And by offering new payment methods, we are opening the door for new buyers worldwide to join our community. It’s really exciting to be a part of this transformational initiative for eBay.

"Payments are critical to the health of any marketplace. With eBay managing payments on our marketplace, we are streamlining and simplifying the experience for our sellers with one place to sell, get paid and manage their business."

M7: What is your mantra for successful marketing?
NG:
My mantra for successful marketing is to always have empathy for the customer. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes, now more than ever. Treat the customer with respect, maintain transparency in communications, and maintain a high say:do ratio.

Sarah Assous, Chief Marketing Officer at Zoovu, is known for her skills in executing and delivering results across multiple positions and businesses. She is passionate about all things marketing and confidently leads a diverse team for innovating and executing work at a high standard. MEDIA 7: Please take us through your career journey of becoming the CMO at Zoovu. SARAH ASSOUS: It was always my ambition to work in the tech space...but it has been a journey. My first job out of college was with a business process outsourcing company, specifically in the insurance product development division (yes, you did read that correctly). I quickly realized that there was a lack of education and value messaging related to our services, so I advocated for a product marketing role. This was a pivotal moment in my career, by creating -and fulfilling - that role, I started my journey in marketing. Five years later, I decided that I wanted more remit, responsibility, and a team, that’s when I joined Zoovu. Within 6 months of joining, I grew the marketing team from 2 to 10 members, rebranded the company, redesigned the website, and elevated our messaging and position in the market - it’s been a wild ride!

Q&A with Cameron Worth, CEO & Founder, SharpEnd

Media 7 | April 22, 2020

Cameron Worth, CEO & Founder of SharpEnd leads the company’s mission to help brands move closer than ever to consumers by connecting packaging, retail and experiential activity. He is a regular speaker and writer on how to build brands in a connected world. He has spoken at Cannes, the Festival of Marketing, LuxePack Monaco and New York, Ad:Week Europe and New York, DMA, the Connected Consumer Conference, Mobile World Congress and the IoT World Forum. MEDIA 7: How did the idea of “the agency of things” come to your mind? CAMERON WORTH: SharpEnd was created in 2015 as the world’s first Internet of Things focused agency, so there is a slight play on words when we say we’re the Agency of Things. I think the idea of giving things their own agency is an interesting concept, and the strapline fits our capabilities on multiple levels. M7: In what way does technology drive the association of SharpEnd with global brands? What approaches are followed to enable sustainability? CW: Our simple proposition is to help build brands in a connected world, and to do that you must always start with identified consumer needs or pain points and look at technology as just an enabler to deliver an appropriate solution (when appropriate).  Take the issue of sustainability, which is often a pain point for brands that grapple with issues such as how we can reward sustainable behaviour change. One of our approaches to this could be to look at communicating the recycling credentials of the different products. Whilst the consumer can engage with a product as part of a wider consumer experience, the same technology could also house content that could tell you whether the product is recyclable, which type of bin it goes in etc. SharpEnd’s work with Unilever is a case in point. We built a digital product that incentivised recycling through gamification but also served to educate through informing people how and where to recycle in a clear fashion. All users had to do was simply scan their packaging to have all this information at their disposal.

Ingenico partners with Cybersource to enable secured unified commerce solution

Ingenico | January 25, 2024

Ingenico, a global leader in payment acceptance and services, has announced a strategic partnership with Cybersource, Visa's agnostic global payment and fraud management platform. The partnership will create a global unified commerce solution for use in Asia Pacific first, followed by other regions. The partnership integrates the AXIUM application developed by Ingenico on the Cybersource open payment platform. This collaboration delivers an efficient, ready-to-use commerce solution to authorize in-store card transaction process across geographies, all on one platform. AXIUM, Ingenico's versatile payment acceptance solution, features advanced smart Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals powered by Android, along with a suite of business applications. It provides robust security, and comprehensive customer support. Its application, built on Cybersource's platform is portable across different AXIUM devices, making it easier to scale without going through lengthy certification processes for each new device. Cybersource is part of Visa Acceptance Solutions, which allows on-demand pre-integrated global scale services on an open acceptance platform. This connectivity hub provides acquirers, Independent Service Providers (ISVs), and merchants access to the building blocks they need to create seamless commerce experiences that can scale their businesses, keep their customers happy, and make them future-ready. The synergy between Ingenico and Cybersource aims to reduce costs and complexities of technical integrations, increase speed to market, and provide omni-channel capabilities that align with the evolving needs of both businesses and consumers in the in-store commerce space. Today, acquirers spend most of their resources maintaining an in-house platform that processes transaction authorization flow and POS device certification. The unified commerce solution eliminates the need for a separate platform which enables acquirers to focus on card clearance and settlement with real-time transaction visibility and data analytics. It also allows them to expand to new merchant segments by leveraging both partners' ecosystems and investing in capabilities that will drive growth in the future. For ISVs providing value-added services, the API-driven capability of this unified commerce platform provides them the ease of integrating payment solutions into their business applications quickly. They can also leverage a list of acquirers already integrated with the platform, extending scalability of their business across different geographies. For merchants, the platform provides a seamless solution across different markets without the need to rebuild different applications for each acquirer in every market. Merchants could also leverage Ingenico's managed solutions that have a strong regional presence and partnerships globally. Nigel Lee, Chief Customer Officer of Ingenico, said, "We are thrilled to partner with Visa to forge a path towards a more integrated and complete payment ecosystem. Combining the global reach of Visa and Ingenico and using the Ingenico Android technology stack, will accelerate innovation and reduce complexity. We believe together we can reduce time to market for customers and allow our clients and partners to realize the benefits of a truly unified omnichannel solution. This is a significant step in our vision to move commerce forward by harnessing the collective strengths of our combined technologies and networks." Dan Parsons, Head of Cybersource, Asia Pacific, said: "As an open payments platform with global reach, we have created a new era of partnership and collaboration that will foster a whole new wave of innovation. Our strategic partnership with Ingenico will enable us to provide pre-integrated and innovative payment solutions to our clients and partners. This will empower businesses to deliver a unified commerce experience to meet evolving consumer expectations while enabling them to scale their business more efficiently." This strategic partnership will further extend to Ingenico's Tap-to-Phone technology with Cybersource integration, enabling new payment use cases. Together, we are looking to create the payment experiences of tomorrow, where clients and partners can enjoy frictionless experiences with the most innovative payment solutions. About Cybersource At Cybersource, we know payments. We helped kick start the eCommerce revolution in 1994 and haven't looked back since.
